Sarika Shah - I want my Kiaan to appreciate various cuisines.
Name – Sarika Shah
Instagram handle - @foodsie_mum
What is your favourite food memory from childhood?
As a kid, I used to be hungry most of the times,
especially when I woke up in the morning. I used to be so famished that I needed
roti crushed in milk as a daily ritual. My mom had to ensure that every night there
was a roti kept aside for me.
What’s your favourite comfort food?
I just love plain dal and basmati tukda rice cooked
with some extra water. I normally serve it hot and loaded with ghee. Of course
it is accompanied with some papad.

3 reasons why you consider yourself a Foodie?
1. I have been eating out for more than 18 years
now and visited at least 500 different restaurants. I love to visit new outlets
and try new flavours. Food has been a key driver of my life’s journey.
2. I am always hungry, well most of times (laughs).
3. Now my endeavour is to make my little foodie kid
Kiaan appreciate various cuisines. So he’s with me at most of the new places I visit
to experiment the food.
What’s the strangest dish you’ve ever tried?
Gheryo/ Khichu is a Marwadi / Gujju dish. Basically it is like atta for
making rice papad and believe me, Marwadis have made a complete meal out of
this. It's bland but a total comfort food.
If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It is difficult for me to keep eating same thing. The
foodie in me loves a variety of
flavours.
What kind of oil do you use most of all?
Groundnut oil. I think it’s the best.
Which is the most over-rated food cuisine?
Chinese cuisine is surely over-rated.
Any quirky food dishes combinations you have invented or love feasting
on?
Dal Chawal with salsa dip. Have you tried it?
Oats Dhokla, healthy and tasty too.
Your take on:
Keto diets – This diet is surely not for me. I am a
Marwadi girl, I love my carbs.
Intermittent fasting – It is really good. For me,
it is essential that there is no food that I see in this intermittent period.
Fusion food cuisine – I like to try different food
and fusion really helps you get lots of variety.
Which superfoods have impressed you the most?
Dry nuts and desi ghee.
What are your favourites?
Indian street food – Pav Bhaji
Indian dessert – Gajar ka halwa
Hidden gem restaurant of your city (and why) –
Sante Spa Cuisine - A place which serves a variety of healthy yet incredibly
tasty food. I love their beetroot hummus.
Over-rated Indian restaurant in your city (and why)
– Vaishali (in Pune). I feel it is visited by patrons more because of emotions
and nostalgia than food.
The restaurant you keep going back to – Little
Italy. My pizza journey started from here.
How do you detox your body after an overdose of
eating out?
Intermittent fasting and sipping a lot of water.
Any health foods you swear by?
I can’t do without ghee and nuts.
